Help a Cause in Style

Corporate philanthropy is an essential asset for a business for several reasons that range from something as simple as publicity to reforming society. As a result, businesses and corporations worldwide spend billions in the form of donations to various community events and fundraisers. As an entrepreneur, you must make sure that your company establishes a social presence as early as possible. All you would need to do is pick a cause that means a lot to you and your consumers and help make a difference. What’s more, if you have the time and resources required, you could even do it in style. However, what you need to remember is that this is not like any other paper transaction. As a result, corporate philanthropy efforts that use a holistic approach will always provide the best result. This will not only make sure that the cause is served well but including your employees and consumers will also act as a crucial morale booster for everybody.

When it comes to choosing a cause for your corporate social responsibility or corporate philanthropy campaign, there are a countless number of options. Here are some tips to help your business come up with unique philanthropy ideas.

Always combine your business and your audience.

When it comes to corporate philanthropy, it is the emotional value that matters the most compared to the monetary value. This is exactly why businesses go out of their way to come up with innovative ideas to support their preferred causes. Many working hours would also be often involved in the project. When you do give your time to the case instead of simply writing a big fat check, you will be able to show the consumers how much you care about the cause.

Since you are going to invest your time in the cause, why not use your best skill set – the core service of your business. So if you are a restaurant owner, you could probably organize a huge community event and cook for the homeless in an open area instead of simply offering donating money. This will make sure that your efforts are noticed better. In the same way, if you are a web design company, you could transform the websites of the people you support to help them function more efficiently, if you own an architecture firm, maybe you could build houses for the homeless and so on.

Give it as much time as you can, not more.

While it is important to make sure that your cause benefits the most from your business, you must also make sure that you do not end up spending more time in helping the cause than you can afford. As a result, it is always a good idea to plan your corporate social responsibility events in a manner that they do not disturb your day-to-day business. In cases where it does, make sure that the interruption is minimal.

Say, for example, if you are building a new website overnight, this would require your entire team working together for one night. So, the ideal time would be to have this event on a Friday night so your employees can rest well before the next working day. In cases where you are building houses for the homeless, this could go on along with your day-to-day business activities. Your team can take turns to attend to the project without neglecting your other clients and the whole thing would be completed without you having to waste any business time.

Making the cause beneficial to your businesses.

If you aren’t a consumer based business, then it might be a little difficult for your business to engage in corporate philanthropy without giving the impression that you simply write a big fat check to a non-profit. In such situations, it is always important to make sure that the causes you choose are aligned in a way that benefits your business.

For example, if you are involved in industrial production, you could take on the cause of sustainable development and implement the same policies in your organization and then participate and hold debates in favor of your cause. Through this strategy, you would be making philanthropy a core policy of your business. Getting a carbon-free certificate, or implementing futuristic waste management procedures will make you a champion of change in the eyes of the society, while safeguarding your business for the future and also helping your cause from the front by being an example.

No matter what you do, you must always remember that corporate philanthropy is never about spending money. It should always be about the cause. Actions speak louder than words and it certainly is true in this case. So make sure that you continue to help the society in innovative ways using an all-hands approach that involves everybody from an ordinary employee to all your consumers in your efforts to help your cause, do it in a unique style that defines your business, forming a part of its identity, and do it with a genuine aim of helping others.

While making profits is imperative to sustain a business, being a responsible social and philanthropic business is just as important.
