Apps and websites are regularly being developed to make the process of donations and volunteering more efficient and easily accessible. NGOs are starting to hugely embrace technology in the rendering of their services as they have seen the benefits.

It is not news that clean, safe drinking water is a luxury to some people in some countries. Research has shown that about 2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water in the world. Charity: water is an organization that is committed to bringing safe water to developing countries.

Their single goal is to end the global water crisis, and they have diligently pursued this goal since their startup in 2006. In 2021, this company took a technological step that increased its efficiency by almost  200%. They launched their India Mark II  Handpump Sensor, which installs water pumps in about 15 minutes. This sensor has other relevant uses. For instance, it uses cloud computing systems to analyze relevant data and send out reports via emails. It measures the number of liters of water that is pumped hourly and sends reports to the non-profits. This enables them to monitor all pumps for the shortage of water flow and send out technicians, as this can be an indication of a fault.

This sensor costs just $250 and has a long battery life that can extend up to 10 years. More than 79,000 projects can be monitored remotely with this sensor. This move has increased their productivity, enabling them to install more pumps at a faster rate in developing countries.

2.   DreamSpring

Funding business dreams and vitalizing communities are the goals of DreamSpring organization. This organization makes it, it’s business to fund small businesses, distribute loans and increase access to credit. They also have a community of supporters to motivate growing entrepreneurs and help them access their goals.

Due to the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic on small businesses, the DreamSpring organization had to top its game in 2021 by launching an online lending platform that enabled them to customize their loans faster and partner with fintech and banking institutions that helped them access PPP applications. This move increased their efficiency. They went from serving just 5 states to 19 states and from 1,567 loans to 26,080 loans.

3.   Baby2Baby

Since its launch in 2011, the Baby2Baby organization has been a blessing to many. They have a goal to supply children living in poverty with diapers, clothes, and all the necessities of children. Towards the end of 2021, there was a high demand for diapers due to the covid-19 pandemic. The organization received requests for about 731 million diapers. Because the demand was far higher than the number of diapers that they received, they went ahead to start producing their diapers. They began to both receive and produce their diapers and distribute them to families all over the world that needed them. In 2022, they are looking at producing over 30 million diapers which will reach thousands of families.

4.   80,000 hours

Non-profits: 80,000 hours

This innovative organization got its impressive name from the concept of working hours since in the entire career of an average man, he has 80,000 working hours. The organization has a goal to ensure that people make the right choice of career to positively impact their lives and their environment in general.

There are a lot of pressing problems in the world today, and certain skills are necessary to help solve these problems.  It is 2022, and a lot of skills that would otherwise be seen as irrelevant and now the most sought-after skills to solve the nation’s problems.

80,000 hours organization carries out research to identify these crucial skills and then puts out online content, podcasts, and job boards that can inform students and other interested people about these skills and help them switch into careers that effectively tackle these problems. As of June, they had gathered millions of readers on their website, over 200,000 subscribers of their newsletters, and offered one-on-one advice to over 2,500 people. They have helped over 1000 people make relevant career decisions that will change the world.

5.   Faunalytics

Animals need an advocate, and the charity organization; Faunalytics is doing an excellent job so far. Its mission is to “empower animal advocates with access to research, analysis, strategies, and messages that maximize their effectiveness to reduce animal suffering.”

A 2022 research shows that every year, over 10 million animals die due to abuse. There are several animal advocates in the world, but most of them do not have enough data to perform their job effectively. This is where Faunalytics come in, by conducting essential research and keeping a research library that supports the advocate with all resources that they may need.

By the end of the first quarter of 2022, about 9,766 advocates had subscribed to their website, and they have amassed over 600,000 views.
